11 firms in running for Mass. gambling facilities

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission says 11 companies seeking to develop a resort casino or slots parlor in Massachusetts have submitted preliminary applications along with $400,000 nonrefundable entry fees.

Among those beating a 5 p.m. deadline on Tuesday was a group seeking to build a casino in the town of Milford.

A surprise last-minute entry was a company affiliated with the principals of Baltimore-based Cornish Companies. PPE Casino Resorts said in a statement that it had not yet chosen a location or decided whether it planned to bid for a resort casino or slots parlor.

Massachusetts Gaming Entertainment, an affiliate of Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, also applied on Tuesday but said it had not yet chosen a location.

A group hoping for a slots parlor at Raynham Park also beat the deadline.
