A proposal at the State House would require banks to install outdoor security cameras.
The bill was sponsored by state Sen. Roger Picard, D-Woonsocket, Cumberland.
The legislation was sparked from an incident last September when gas station manager David Main was shot and killed in a parking lot outside a Citizens Bank in Woonsocket.
Three people were charged in the killing.
Picard said more surveillance cameras outside bank branches might help prevent similar attacks in the future.
“As far as deter, however, into consideration,” Picard said.
Picard said robbers look for situations where they can get money and get away quickly without being spotted.
