Up to 8 elections coming to Central Falls in 2013
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) – Central Falls is bracing for as many as eight elections in less than a year.
The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/yXauJR) that a primary will pick a candidate to replace newly elected Mayor James A. Diossa on the City Council.
If at least three candidates declare, the nonpartisan primary is scheduled for Feb. 19. The two top vote-getters will face off on March 26.
Diossa is serving the final year of ex-Mayor Charles D. Moreau’s four-year term. He must seek reelection in nine months.
And, whoever wins the general election in the March race for a council seat must run for reelection in the fall with the other four council members.
And because voters approved a ballot question last fall expanding the council from five to seven, two at-large candidates will run in the primary and election.
