COVENTRY, R.I. —
Coventry residents stopped an attempt to raise their taxes.
Residents packed the Coventry Town Hall annex Monday night.
The board of the Central Coventry Fire District thought it was going to pass a new budget with new and higher property taxes.
But residents want the board to reassess the situation and come back and vote again in six months.
The board will send out tax bills with last year’s tax rate until it can pass a new budget that will probably come with a supplemental tax bill.
