I-Team: Doherty to run for U.S. House


NBC 10’s I-Team has learned that former Superintendent of Rhode Island State Police, Brendan Doherty, will run for the 1st Congressional seat now held by Democrat David Cicilline.

A source confirms for the I-Team that Doherty will run as a Republican.

Doherty recently retired as the head of the Rhode Island State Police. When he retired, he said he wanted to continue to serve the public in the future.

Doherty has been meeting with officials in and out of the Republican party as well as people from the business community.

Doherty is scheduled to make a formal announcement Thursday afternoon in Pawtucket.
