Lawmakers want state to switch light bulbs

A group of Rhode Island lawmakers wants state government to replace its old light bulbs with newer, environmentally friendly fluorescents.

A resolution calling on the state to make the switch is scheduled for a hearing Thursday.

The four state senators behind the proposal say it would cut state government’s energy use and help the environment.

The resolution calls on state officials to replace conventional bulbs in all state offices and buildings by July 1, 2012.
