NFL draft: Dolphins take Christian Wilkins, who then awkwardly crashed into Roger Goodell on stage

News

The Miami Dolphins took Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins with the No. 13 overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night.

His NFL career, however, was nearly over before it started — as he almost took out NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on stage just moments after the pick was announced.

Wilkins was, naturally, ecstatic after hearing his name called on Thursday night, and it showed once he reached the stage in Nashville. To celebrate, Wilkins attempted to get Goodell to go up for a chest bump.

Goodell, though, completely missed the memo and didn’t jump — which made things more than a little awkward.

Both Wilkins and Goodell quickly recovered from the incident and embraced before taking the customary photo with his ceremonial Dolphins jersey.

And to be fair, Wilkins did point up before running at Goodell — which is the universal signal for the chest bump.

Wilkins recorded 51 total tackles last season while leading the Tigers on their dominant national championship run, and will definitely be a welcome addition to the Dolphins’ defense this fall.

If nothing else, Goodell certainly won’t forget his first official interaction with Wilkins anytime soon. That first impression has to count for something, right?
