NEW BEDFORD, Mass. —
A special primary election is on tap in a legislative district in southeastern Massachusetts.
Voters on Tuesday will be choosing among candidates to succeed state Rep. Stephen Canessa, a New Bedford Democrat who resigned in June to take a job with SouthCoast Health System.
The three Democrats on the ballot are former Lakeville selectman Nancy Yeatts; Middleborough selectman Allin Frawley; and Middleborough resident Roger Brunelle.
Lakeville selectman Derek Maksy and Keiko Orrall, also a Lakeville resident, are vying for the Republican nomination.
Turnout is expected to be light.
The respective primary winners will square off in a special election on Sept. 20.
