Reed to promote fuel-efficient zoo trolley

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed is set to visit Rhode Island to promote free rides to Roger Williams Park Zoo on cost-effective hybrid trolleys recently bought by the state’s transit authority.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority said Reed is scheduled to join transit authority CEO Charles Odimgbe and state Rep. Scott A. Slater on Friday to promote the free rides. Starting May 7, Providence residents can take the trolley to the zoo for free on the first Saturday of every month.

The zoo offers free admission for Providence residents on the first Saturday of each month.

Reed, who is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, helped secure $9.7 million in federal funding to buy the fuel-efficient hybrid trolleys.
