Barrington police Chief John LaCross told the Providence Journal on Monday that he was at Gov. Lincoln Chafee’s property in Exeter at about the same time the state police say the governor’s 18-year-old son, Caleb, was hosting a party.
According to the Providence Journal, LaCross said he and his wife were invited to the compound on Memorial Day by the governor’s senior advisor, who rents a house on the property. He said he was briefly introduced to Caleb Chafee.
Lacross told the paper Caleb Chafee did not appear to be drunk and that he did not see any alcohol at the Exeter home.
A state police report said an 18-year-old woman who was at the party was treated for alcohol poisoning at Kent Hospital.
The governor was not home at the time.
LaCross has led efforts to crack down on teen drinking.
Phone calls and e-mail sent by NBC 10 to LaCross have gone unanswered.
