A Rhode Island Senate committee is set to consider the nominations of seven people picked by Gov. Lincoln Chafee to oversee redevelopment of the Interstate 195 corridor in Providence.
The Senate Committee on Corporations plans to review the nominations at a meeting Tuesday at the State House. The nominations require Senate approval.
The I-195 Redevelopment District Commission will manage revitalization of the “Knowledge District” being opened up by the demolition of old Interstate 195. State and city officials say they want to turn the area into a hub for the life sciences.
Chafee picked real estate developer Colin Kane to lead the commission. Other nominees are Barrett Bready, Barbara Hunger, Diana Johnson, John Kelly, Mark Ryan and Michael Van Leesten.
The full Senate is scheduled to consider the nominations Thursday.
