Rhode Island lawmakers are set to vote on a proposal to ban almost anyone under 18 from using tanning booths.
The state Senate is scheduled to vote on the restrictions Tuesday. If the measure becomes law Rhode Island would have some of the nation’s strictest rules on teen tanning.
The proposal would only allow minors to use tanning booths if they have a prescription from a physician.
Many states require parental consent for minors to use tanning salons. Rhode Island now requires a parent to accompany minors using a tanning salon.
Last year California became the first state to prohibit minors from using tanning booths with or without parental permission.
