WOONSOCKET, R.I. —
The Woonsocket City Council will officially talk about the proposed supplemental tax plan for the first time Wednesday night.
The City Council president said it’s really the only alternative to bail the city out of its pressing financial woes.
It could mean a bill for hundreds of dollars to the average taxpayer, and it would have to be paid in the next few months.
Woonsocket is $10 million in the hole and could run out of money after it was recently announced that the school department has a big budget deficit.
Originally, it was thought the City Council would vote on the tax Wednesday, but that will not be the case because it did not give enough notice.
Instead, there will be a public hearing Monday and a vote the Monday after that.
