A day of progress for immigration reform

Barack Obama

Big news: Today, the Senate voted to begin debate on bipartisan immigration reform. Democrats and Republicans agreed that the time is now to fix our broken immigration system—more than 80% of senators voted in favor! You can see how your senators voted here.

This bill isn’t perfect, but it has bipartisan support and is consistent with President Obama’s principles of reform:

  • Provides a fair pathway to earned citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in our country

  • Streamlines and modernizes our legal immigration system

  • Strengthens border security, but also enforcement within our borders

While this is exciting news, we know it’s just the beginning. Remember: Just last week, the House of Representatives voted to deport the DREAMers, undocumented young people who were brought to America through no fault of their own.

Reform will not be easy, but it’s the right thing to do—and you can help get it done. Find an immigration reform action event near you and get involved now.
