Re “Fury in G.O.P. as House Stalls Hurricane Aid” (front page, Jan. 3):
The blocking of a bill to provide federal aid for Hurricane Sandy victims is just one more piece of unwelcome evidence that the Republican members of the House do not believe that we are all in this together.

Re “Possible ’16 Contender Takes Swing at Own Party” (news article, Jan. 3): As a New Jerseyan, I’m embarrassed when our governor, Chris Christie, bullies people he thinks are stupid, but I’m proud of his willingness to speak his mind forcefully when he needs to.
He did so on Wednesday, calling out Speaker John A. Boehner for apparently going back on his word and postponing a House vote on hurricane relief.
Perhaps Governor Christie should consider switching parties. We Democrats have room for him. On the other hand, he’s probably more effective as a Republican voice of reason right now. Either way, I hope he runs for president in 2016.
