Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined President Kersti Kaljulaid of Estonia for a photo opportunity at the top of a meeting in the Capitol.  Below are the Speaker’s remarks:

Speaker Pelosi.  Good afternoon, everyone.  It’s a personal honor, an official one as well, to welcome the President of Estonia to the Capitol of the United States.

I saw President Kaljulaid in Munich a week and a half or so ago, where we were there for the Munich Security Conference, and I am pleased to continue our conversation here today.

I look forward to talking about the security and economic situation in the region, to talk about supporting our NATO partners and standing up to malign actors who search for cracks in our alliance and for – combating threats to our democracy, such as cyber-attacks and attacks on our electoral systems.

Promoting peace, security and stability are our goals in working together.  We want to build a stronger relationship, that is always our goal.

And it is such a pleasure in this Women’s History Month, within a week of International Women’s Day, to welcome this great woman leader to the Capitol.

A leader of the present, a leader of the future and someone I’m very eager to hear her perspective, more fully, on how we go forward to strengthen our relationship, recognizing that it is important, this relationship between Estonia and the United States, to both of our nations.

Madam President.
