Nearly a decade and a half into the 21st Century, America faces great challenges, and great opportunities. To help ready our nation for these challenges and opportunities, the pro-growth majority led by Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) in the U.S. House of Representatives has focused on American solutions to help get people back to work, lower costs at home, and restore opportunity for all Americans.
As part of this effort, the House has passed more than 350 bills that are currently languishing in a dysfunctional, do-nothing Democratic-controlled Senate, including dozens of bills to support private-sector job creation and economic growth. Speaker Boehner has also spent months outlining a five-point long-term vision for resetting America’s economic foundation.
The Speaker’s “five points” – which he has articulated in Ohio, in the halls of the U.S. Capitol, and across the nation for months – are simple and straightforward. They reflect Boehner’s decades of experience in the private sector as a small business owner in Ohio’s Eighth Congressional District, and his strong belief that the emerging energy boom in the United States offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our country to reset its economic foundation. To take advantage of the emerging energy boom, the Speaker argues, we must do these five key things as a nation:
· Address the debt.
· Reform the tax code.
· Fix the legal system.
· Rein in excessive regulations.
· Strengthen education.
Under Boehner’s leadership, the pro-growth majority in the House has used hearings and the legislative process to address the challenges facing our economy and the need for a 21st-century system of government that allows Americans to make the most of the opportunities ahead. Some of the bills passed by the House have become law. Many others await passage by the Democratic-controlled Senate, and the signature of the president. These efforts are the pillars of the American Solutions agenda put forth by House Republican leaders, an important step toward the long-term vision put forth by the Speaker.
On Thursday, September 18, Speaker Boehner will deliver a policy address at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in which he is expected to further discuss his five points for resetting America’s economic foundation.
Further details on the Speaker’s upcoming AEI address will be announced soon.
