In a days-before-Christmas edition of the Weekly Republican address, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) celebrates America’s energy workers and the opportunity we have to harness the nation’s resources to bring jobs home and build a stronger economy.  In that spirit, Kelly offers President Obama a lump of coal, a resource that helps provide good-paying jobs, light our homes, and keep our electricity bills low.

“Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pennsylvania, offered President Obama a lump of coal for Christmas on Saturday, urging the president to kickstart America’s economic growth by accelerating the development of domestic energy resources. … Kelly highlighted the abundance of America’s domestic energy deposits.  ‘With all that God has given us, we shouldn’t just be trying to keep up with the pack,’ he said. ‘My goodness, we should be leading the world.’  Kelly promised a vote to approve the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline when Republicans assume control of both houses of Congress in January.”

“U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler offered President Obama a symbolic lump of coal during the weekly Republican address.  ‘Instead of forcing our workers to live with less, the president should let us use our God-given resources and talents to help Americans get back to work and make our nation the energy superpower it can be — and quite frankly needs to be,’ Kelly said.”

ABC News Radio: “Rep. Mike Kelly Issues a Call for Coal”
“In this week’s Republican Address, Rep. Mike Kelly called for energy reform and increased reliance on coal — offering President Obama a lump of coal, though he avoided calling the commander in chief ‘naughty.’  ‘Coal is our most abundant and valuable resource,’ Kelly says. ‘It lights our homes, keeps our electric bills low, and puts food on the table for countless families.’  Kelly criticizes the president’s ‘all of the above’ strategy for energy, saying that Obama is ‘leaving out everything that is below.’”

The Hill: “GOP offers Obama lump of coal”
“During the last Republican weekly address before Christmas, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) offered President Obama a lump of coal for the holiday.  ‘Not because he’s been bad this year,’ Kelly said, ‘because this product right here holds the potential for a 21st-century economic revival.’  The president, Kelly argued, has spent his entire presidency trying to ‘bankrupt’ the coal industry.”

Newsmax: “Rep. Mike Kelly Offers Obama ‘Lump of Coal for Christmas’”
“All forms of energy in the United States should be developed to spur job creation and economic growth, Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Mike Kelly said in Saturday’s GOP address.  ‘Instead of forcing our workers to live with less, the president should let us use our God-given resources and talents to help Americans get back to work and make our nation the energy superpower it can be,’ Kelly commented, quipping that he is ‘offering President [Barack] Obama a lump of coal for Christmas.’ … But the energy solutions don’t stop with coal, but they involve the entire country, Kelly said.”
